Esther Tielemans

Esther Tielemans paints paradisiacal landscapes that are as seductive as they are confusing. The use of gloss paint and epoxy resin confirms this contrast by creating an attractive yet at the same time unreal appearance. Her panels can sometimes assume enormous proportions, reaching to the edges of the wall or as floor and corner constructions. The experience of space and architecture plays a role in the construction an is apparent in recent works in the depiction of interiors with views through to the landscape, screens and ‘paintings in paintings’. Tielemans’ work offers the public a theatrical confrontation whereby the viewer is assigned an active role ; one can literally move and walk through the landscape (Press Release, Prix de Rome, De Appel).
