Zürcher Gallery presents its second solo exhibition of works by Tom Doyle (1928-2016). This exhibition offers a unique and rare chance to DISCOVER 10 sculptures Tom Doyle had made in 1964-65 in Kettwig, Germany where he had been a guest artist with Eva Hesse - his wife then- for 15 months at the invitation of Arnhard Scheidt, the owner of a big wool factory. These sculptures have been shown in a group-exhibition at the Düsseldorf Kunsthalle (August 6 – October 17, 1965), then in Flyktpunkter (Vanishing Points) at the Moderna Museet, Stockholm (April 4 – May 27, 1984).

After the show, they had been shipped back to Pennsylvania where Tom was living and working. Then they were shipped to Roxbury, CT and stored in the barn. Jane Doyle comments: "the crates remained unopened mostly because it was the safest place to store them."

I thought it was a perfect time to UNEARTH those treasures, which have never been seen in the US, and show them at the gallery. Kirsten Swenson had interviewed Tom Doyle in 2005 for an article she was writing for Art in America, Machines and Marriage Eva Hesse and Tom Doyle in Germany in 1964-65. So I asked Kirsten Swenson to write the essay for the catalog of this show.
